Another week done! It is unbelievable to think that it was only week two! It passed by so quickly. It was sad to see even more campers leave some of these campers have been here for two weeks and were so sad to be leaving. Pine Crest Swimming was also sad to see these campers leave as everybody had created a great relationship with these multi-week campers. Yet it was excellent to see all of the new week two campers come in today. The past week was very busy and fun-filled. Once again the first night, Sunday, was built around getting to know each other and make friends that would last a lifetime. There was no technique camp this time because there were so many campers coming in that had to be picked up from the airport. At 6pm all of the campers went to a meeting where they were all formally introduced to the staff of the camp, and to each other. After this small meeting they everybody went back to the hotel to hang out, eat some pizza, have fun, and create friendships that would last a lifetime.
Monday was the first official first day of camp during week two; all of our overnight campers were joined up by the day-campers. First up was breakfast for the age groupers at 730, then off to the pool for a two-hour practice. After this practice they went to snack time, and a meeting with the staff where the campers were told the schedule for the next 24 hours. After this they were led to the classroom where a video demonstrating proper stroke technique, and many drills for freestyle. This was very informative for everybody, even the counselors. Lunch was up next; followed by back to the hotel for quiet, rest time before their afternoon practice. After practice the campers had an hour of dry land and games, followed by dinner. The campers’ night activity was to go and have a beach night, everybody had so much fun playing Frisbee, football, and playing in the ocean. It seemed to be that the most popular beach activity this week was an Ultimate Frisbee game where the whole camp, counselors included, got involved and had a lot of fun! Then it was back to the hotel for one-on-one camper-counselor meetings and just hanging out until off to bed.
Tuesday was very much the same day, except instead of the classroom session everybody was in the water, learning technique from coaches and the counselors. The afternoon activity was to go to Publix and stock up on food and snacks for the week.
Wednesday was slightly disappointing because of the massive storms that were coming through the area. Due to this our trip to the Everglades for airboat rides was cancelled. Instead of this though we went to a Science Museum in Ft. Lauderdale where the campers really enjoyed themselves. First off in the museum was an IMAX film about life in the arctic, and then the campers broke into groups with their friends and counselors and took trips around the museum.
On Thursday the schedule during the day was very much the same as Tuesday. With one major exception, we had awards night one day early because there was a meet that some of the campers and counselors were attending. This week we had much more campers leaving than we did week one, which was very sad. Yet they all had an amazing time and said they would remember Pine Crest Swim Camp for the rest of their years. Congratulations to this weeks winners of the Campers of the Week awards, which were Christopher Shaari and Lauren Harris. Another Congratulations to our Spirit Award, which went to Emmy Foltz! These campers were all here for the first two weeks and showed that they had exactly what it takes to be Campers of the Week. These are the very things that we want in our campers. Congratulations to them!!
Friday was another funky day as we had most of the camp at the meet. Yet the ones who were not at the meet had a normal day, except that their camp activity at night was to go and cheer on their teammates and friends at the meet.
Saturday was exactly like last weeks, where the people who weren’t entered in the meet went to breakfast, practice, back to the hotel, and then off to Sawgrass Mall where they shopped during the afternoon!
It was great to have all of the Campers during week 2 and we cannot wait to meet all the new campers for week three!
The first week of Pine Crest Swim Camp 2012 is officially done! It passed by so quickly. It was sad to see the departing campers leave. Yet it was excellent to see all of the new week two campers come in today. The past week was very busy and fun-filled. The first night, Sunday, was built around getting to know each other and make friends that would last a lifetime. At around 4pm campers and staff all headed to the pool so that the campers could have a quick swim, a good time to get to know each other and be coached on technique by the counselors, who are all college athletes or have graduated college. At 5pm everybody headed to pizza, where it was great to see that many of the campers had already made great friends and were still ready to make more. Next up on the schedule was to go to a meeting where they were all formally introduced to the staff of the camp, and to each other. After this small meeting they everybody went back to the hotel to hang out and have fun.

Wednesdays are very special days because of trips. After morning practice everybody got on the bus and made the 45-minute trip to Rapids Water Park. Many campers believed this was one of the best moments of the week. We stayed at Rapids for 5 hours, having so much fun running around and riding every ride possible. After we got back to the hotel, we had time to rest and then back to school for dinner and sports games on campus.
Thursday was in effect a carbon copy of Tuesday, with two differences. The session in the water was based on turns and starts, and their night activity was a trip to Boca Strikes for a game of bowling. The campers really enjoyed this, and were bummed when the hour was up.
Friday was also a carbon copy of Monday, except the classroom session was based on backstroke drills and then in the afternoon we reached a very special moment of the week, Awards Night. This is where all of the campers that were departing would be presented with something special from their counselor that would always remind them of what a great time they had at Pine Crest Swim Camp. There were three very special awards that were presented to campers, Male and Female Camper of the Week, and the Spirit award. A huge congratulations goes out to the winners, Male Camper of the Week was Jackson Green, Female Camper of the week was Sophie Leon, and the Spirit Award went to Sam Hlavachek. Once again huge congratulations to these three campers.
On Saturday, everyone had a later start and another two-hour practice, followed by lunch and then all the campers that didn’t have a flight out were taken to Boca Mall for a few hours in order for the campers to shop.
This was a great first week, sad to see everybody go but very excited for the next week! This week our trip is to the Everglades!!
